Helping Cornwall and Devon landowners through the process of grant and subsidy applications for a wide range of schemes. There are a wide range of grant and subsidy schemes that are available to landowners, farmers, land managers and rural communities who want to diversify in the rural economy or improve farm & forestry productivity. We have a good working knowledge of all the main schemes that are on offer across the south west of England, and who are eligible for them. We can advise clients on the relevant local priorities, eligibility and the different options available, while also giving advice on what makes an application stand out which can be the difference between getting funding or not.

Basic Payment Scheme

The Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) is a subsidy that is available to farmers and landowners, this is a complex scheme with strict deadlines and requirements and in its current form will run until 2019. Anyone intending on claiming BPS will need to comply with a set of rules known as cross compliance and in order to qualify for BPS they need to have over 5 ha of eligible, agricultural land and meet the ‘Active Farmer’ requirements. We can offer advice on all matters of the BPS including daily involvement with the Scheme on a client’s behalf, this includes completing the annual Basic Payment Scheme form on a client’s behalf in order to receive the payments they are entitled to.

Countryside Stewardship

The Countryside Stewardship Scheme is England’s primary environmental scheme to help farmers, woodland owners, foresters and land managers protect wildlife and create new habitats while reducing flood risk. It offers a range of environmental management agreements, from a five-year ‘Mid Tier’ agreements for various farmland environments and woodland to a ten-year ‘Higher Tier’ agreements for environmentally important sites, including commons, woodlands and Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSI’s). We can offer advice and assistance on any of the above to ensure that applicants have the best chance as possible of securing an agreement. The current deadline for submission of an existing agreement is 15th May, any new applicants must request an application pack by 31st May and submit by 31st July in order to create an agreement to start on the 1st January in the following year.
